Susette Billedeaux Gertsch
Artist
There can be so much more to painting than just looking and recording objects or scenes. From a young age I felt called to be an artist, a silent performer, and a visual story teller all in one. I learned to translate a given passage of time into a message written mark by mark on canvas, with brushes and paint. I learned that if I’m feeling happy or brilliant or inspired, or sad, or funny, or bored, or anything else, the painting holds some of that energy and emotion. And like a message in a bottle thrown into the sea, it drifts away from my easel in suspended animation, to others who read it later through the lens of their own perceptions and life experiences. And if I am very lucky sometimes I hear back from them.
I have shared thousands of painted messages while studying people, nature and still life objects in my home studio (western USA) and while traveling through western Europe, and Russia. Currently I focus on the beauty of sumptuous gardens, floral arrangements, and figures. I have wandered, explored, taught in public school and privately, earned a masters degree in drawing and painting, participated in a multitude of shows and competitions, written a book, started an art association, promoted public art events like ArtAroundTheSquare, and most recently have come into the world of film making for ArSchoolArt, an entertaining online art school and YouTube channel. Sharing life in these various art forms is a very personal and genuinely satisfying experience. I am sincerely grateful to a heavenly creator, fellow creatives and friends, an incredibly creative family, and a fine art loving audience for this exciting and amazing life in the arts. May we each find the spark within to inspire all that we are meant to be.
