Sometimes, I see and create paintings within paintings. The full and complex 30"x 48" original oil, titled "Harvest, Man's Labor, God's Giftst", was one such 'in situ' subject (painted from life). The fresh sunflowers, the pottery, and the fruit were arranged carefully in a long horizontal rhythm of shapes and color across the still life table of my studio. The numerous design elements created a rhythm with details in the foreground and with the objects set against a diffuse soft back drop of color. I wanted the various elements to work together with specific aspects standing out more than others as the viewers eye wanders over the entire painting. The overall effect was intriguing to me as an artist, and I spent many enjoyable hours and several days working towards a competition deadline. Later, when cropped in sections, the main image revealed 3 individual vertical images that were each, very beautiful in their own right.
This subject was completed in October 2023.
